The personal status of Moroccans residing in European Union countries has now become one of the main concerns of European governments, due to its close link with the migration issue, to which they devote a colossal attention to properly control its process and its course.

Although it is customary to address the issue of conflicts of laws, including the personal status of aliens, as private questions, through the rules of attachment, whose establishment and development have required centuries of doctrinal and judicial reflection, this subject has been treated, for the first time, by political actors and integration commissions, accepting solutions compatible with European migration policy.

In addition, the European Union has unveiled a new direction and a unique policy since the beginning of the third millennium, adopting European international family law.

The most important feature of this legal text is that it devotes a special place to human rights, which has a marked impact on the personal status of Moroccan residing in Europe.

Therefore, the improvement of their legal status, regardless of the alternatives proposed to achieve this objective, remains dependent on the political will of the countries concerned.
