Abstract EN

Language represents the main and most important pillar in the process of communication between members of society thus it acquired great value.

Thereforeanciet and contemporary linguists have bent to study it and discover its secrets, and it occupied a part of their work.

Among the issuees that were famous in arabic linguistic studies, those related to polyphony and polysemy, the importance of the latter in the linguistic course, indeed, the arabic language is characterized by the richness of its vocabulary where one idea can be expressed in different structures and levels according to its accuracy and creativity.

From this standpoint, the present study aims to shed light on the problems related to meaning and the Arabic language (Synonymy-homonymy-antonyms) and clarify them in the light of the book WORDS AND THEIR USE by STEPHEN ULLMANN, and the degree of influence of these problems on the clarity and the ambiguity of semantics in the Arabic language.

We reached a number of results, the most important of which are that the issue of pronunciation and meaning and its problems is one of the most topics that linguists have dealt, beginning with the problem of ambiguity that accompanies meaning and pronunciation due to the multiplicity of each one of them.
