Abstract EN

This study aimed to examine the relationship between cybersecurity awareness and national belonging values among secondary school students in Makkah Region.

Specifically, using a sample of 417 secondary school students in the two cities of Mecca and Jeddah, the study sought to identify the level of cybersecurity awareness and that of national belongingness values (prevalence), investigate the group differences in the two variables that are potentially due to students' demographic characteristics (i.e., gender, city, specialization, and school grade).

Furthermore, the study assessed the influence of cybersecurity awareness on the values of national belonging using simple linear regression.

For the purpose of the study, two instruments to measure cybersecurity awareness and national belongingness values were developed and validated.

The results suggested that students had a high level of overall cybersecurity awareness, an average level of awareness in the sub-dimension of dealing with devices and storage means, and a high level of awareness in the sub-dimension of safe dealing with Internet services and programs.

Students additionally reported a high level of national belonging values.

With regard to the differences among the study sample, females reported a stonger feeling of national belonging than males, and second- grade students exhibited a higher feeling of belonging than their counterparts in the first and third grades of secondary school.

However, no significant differences were found between students due to differences on the variables of the city and specialization.

Moreover, the results of the linear regressions indicated a statistically significant positive relationship between the two variables of the study, in which cybersecurity awareness predicted the values of national belonging among students.
