Abstract EN

the kingdom of Saudi Arabia started its preventive measures to respond to the COVID-19 epidemic from the very beginning of its inception on 2nd of March 2020.

Before the spread of the disease, and by the patronage and directives of His Majesty the Custodian of the two Holy Mosques and His Highness the Crown Prince – May Allah keep them safe from all harm -, Saudi Arabia took swift and effective steps to prevent it from propagating to wide areas among the population.

Various precautionary procedures, supervised and coordinated by concerned governmental and other national agencies (ministries, health and educational associations, etc.), were implemented and masterfully orchestrated.

These efforts placed Saudi Arabia as one of the most successful nations in keeping the citizens and the residents of the country safe from the disastrous effects of the pandemic as much as is possible.

In its readiness and timely initiatives to attack the spread of COVID-19 and defend the inhabitants of this land, the government’ success, with Allah’s facilitation, exceeded the efforts of many of the leading developed states of the world, giving – with this achievement – the highest of examples in humane care and fulfilment of the objectives of Sharia.

Sharia, being committed to realize the peoples’ short and long-term interests, naturally has an essential role in defining and founding the proper methods to deal with epidemics as can be found in many Sharia texts (From the Holy Quran, The Sunna, etc.) Accordingly, this study attempts to shed some light on the legislative foundations of Saudi Arabia’s efforts and precautionary measures to confront COVID-19 epidemic.

The essay comprised of an introduction with two parts, followed by two sections as follows: The introduction contains two parts: 1.Identification of the terms & general terminology.

2.Overview of the efforts and preventive measures the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia introduced to counter COVID-19 threat.

Then the two sections are: 1.First Section: On the Textual evidence of the legitimacy of the Kingdom’s efforts to confront and treat COVID-19 threat.

2.Second Section: On the rational foundations that justify and validate legally the Kingdom’s efforts to confront and treat COVID-19 threat.

In addition, the essay provides a conclusion in which the main results and recommendations are presented.
