Abstract EN

The present paper aims at shedding light on the challenges faced by official translators when translating legal texts from and into a foreign language.

it also attempts to examine the effect of language direction and different legal systems on the performance of legal translators.

to achieve the study objectives, a questionnaire is designed and distributed to a sample of official translators in order to explore the translators' perceptions and views about the difficulties they encounter when translating legal texts from and into a foreign language and the impact that these difficulties could possibly have on the quality of their translation.

the study will also investigate the most important strategies adopted by translators to overcome these difficulties.

the paper presents the study results along with some recommendations.
