The press has been and continues to be the cornerstone of freedom of expression and is therefore one of the main determinants of democratic societies, some have called it her majesty or the fourth estate.

freedom of the press is therefore part of the public freedoms that the international community has endeavored to extend in order to protect and enshrine it through provisions in numerous international conventions.

like other countries, the Algerian state guaranteed the freedom of the press and tried to provide it with a whole range of constitutional and legal guarantees in order to promote and protect them, because this freedom has repercussions on all aspects of public life, whether political, economic or social.

and because solute freedom is lately corrupt, authority had to control it, in order to maintain public order.

freedom of the press is therefore relative because, in certain cases, it would infringe other rights of individuals, which would seem incompatible with the provisions of the constitution.
