The recruitment of children in times of armed conflict is one of the worst forms of trafficking in persons, which has led the international community to intensify international efforts to combat this crime and to promote the development of the relevant norms of international law in order to better protect children and avoid the effects of conflict.

However, these efforts have been hampered by several obstacles, including the disparity in the legal age of criminal responsibility between different States, as well as the inadequacy of operational mechanisms, which call for the consolidation of relevant legislation and the strengthening of those mechanisms with wider powers for judicial monitoring and follow-up in order to reduce impunity
