This article seeks to explain a realist model of foreign policy based on realism as a theory of international relations.

Realism appears as a structural approach, when it assumes that the structure of the international system is the source of all foreign policy behavior of states; Anarchy causes all countries to pursue the same foreign policies based on self-help principle.

As unified actors, states make their decisions in a rational manner, that guarantees achieving the goals of survival and security as core national interests.

Realism views power politics as a necessary mean to achieve foreign policy goals of independence and influence.
