Many countries have started conducting studies and researches on the possibility of issuing central bank digital currencies, because of the widespread of crypto virtual currencies, which can negatively affect the economic system and make traditional money lose its value.

these currencies do not subject to any monetary authority, and they also lack many of the characteristics and functions of money.

that's why there are different opinions concerning their trading.

through this research, we will try to learn about : cryptocurrencies and their characteristics, moreover the central digital currencies, and the reasons behind issuing them, in addition to the conditions for their adoption and circulation by individuals, institutions, and banks.

we relied on a deductive approach through which we stated facts and described the research phenomenon.

we found out that : virtual currencies cannot be considered as real currencies, but only assets that got accepted by many people, the reason why some countries have begun issuing legal central digital currencies, that may probably help to reach monetary policy objectives and minimize the risks of cryptocurrencies.
