This research aims to shed light on the extent of the success of the competency approach in teaching Arabic rhetoric, which is an important element in Arabic linguistics, as it is closely related to it, as it guides us to the way in which we express our purposes and build the hidden meanings in our souls.

if literature represents the bright side of the beauty of expression, then rhetoric presents the foundations that form this beauty in expression, one of the modern approaches used in the Algerian educational system is the competency approach as the most effective way to develop learners' experiences and skills.

the competency approach is an effective strategy in the educational process.

in this research, we will try to answer a set of questions that arise about a fundamental issue: did you adopt the competency approach in teaching rhetoric? and the extent of its success in the secondary stage.

to achieve the objectives of this study, we divided our research into two main parts: the first part deals with the theoretical framework of rhetoric and the approach to competencies, and the second part (the practical part) is the analysis of a questionnaire for teachers and students.
