Our article, labeled: The connotations of the City in the Novel (Smells of the City) by Hussein Al-Wad, deals with the problems of place in the fictional text, and the various deep connotations of the city in a contemporary novelmodel, depicting the city as a spatial component chiefly in the blog targeted for reading and analysis, and one of the most significant and most existing places in the contemporary Arab and Western novel blog, and the most different in treatment and use, stemming from a fundamental problem, which is: What are the connotations of the city in the novel (The Smells of the City)? To conclude at the end of the research that the city in this novel has different historical, social, religious and cultural connotations, as the city's scope varied between open and closed, between desirable and dreaded, between sacred and profane, between fixed and variable, and between real and imagined and miraculous at other times, and in this diversity there is a terrible narrative, reading, hermeneutic and semantic movement.
