Abstract EN

This study aims to analyse the higher education factual in Algeria and its role in human capital formation ans the transition towards knowledge economy according to global knowledge index (GKI) methodology and united nations development programme (UNDP), thus actual world economy have changed from one basing on traditional ressources to another bases mainly on knowledge activities such as production٫ publication and utilization untill it bacames its dominante feature.

so, knowledge became one of key elements in production and a primary determinant of economic growth and intended development.

the study resulted that Algeria souffre from a multifaceted gap in different sectors concerned by the GKI disproportionately, including higher education despites national efforts in higher education investments by allocating important funds and increasing increasing enrollment rate.
