Abstract EN

This study aims to shedding on mergers and acquisitions as one of the most important and most common growth and expansion strategies, by researching what these two strategies are and their historical reference mainly related to the real reasons for their spread and growth, in addition to researching the reality of their spread and the laws governing their adoption in Algeria.

to achieve the aim of the study, the descriptive analytical method was used.

the study concluded that Algeria, despite having an integrated legislative system with regard to mergers and acquisitions at the local and foreign levels, the willingness of companies to adopt this type of strategy is very little, while banks have not recorded any case of merger or acquisition according to this study, this is due to the unwillingness of public authorities to conduct such experiments.

hence, those decision takers should recognize the major importance of mergers and acquisitions in a globalized world characterized by competition and in which survival is only for the strongest.

it is also crucial for the bank of Algeria to strengthen its legislative framework through a law that grants the banking committee the merger of banks in case of financial problems (under the permission of money and credit council) instead of withdrawing its accreditation or liquidating it directly.
