This study aims to demonstrate the economic importance of Algeria's mountainous regions, through the opportunities and challenges offered by sustainable development in these regions.

Where mountainous areas in Algeria continue to be marginalized despite their natural resources and the promoting of the Law on the Protection of Mountain Areas in 2004.

Achieving sustainable development in these areas is legally available, through the existing legal arsenal that cares about mountains and mountain areas, but the reality is that there is a stumble, which requires speeding up studies on the classification of mountain areas, and activating the work of mountain institutions such as the National Mountain Council and the Mountain Fund, which would activate the process of sustainable development in these areas.
