Talking about the philosophical origins of the concept of generation as decided by Chomsky in his grammar necessitates evoking two important matters: First: Greek natural philosophy in its Plotinian form, especially as presented by Plotin of Alexandria in his prominent book The Enneads.

And explaining the close relationship between the major and basic concepts in generative grammar, such as generation and transformation, and the two structures; deep/superficial and finite/ infinite.

And the concepts of Plotin's natural philosophy, such as emanation, divergent minds, unity and abundance.

Secondly: Examine the relevance of the concept of generation specifically to the concept of emanation, as described particularly by Plotinus, then explaining the effect of this philosophical concept on the generative and transformational grammar as a concept directed to Chomsky's linguistic philosophy.
