The rumor is a social phenomenon similar in its spread to the fire that feeds on what gets in its way, so its flames increase, its temperature doubles, and its area expands so that it does not extinguish until it comes on green and dry.

So does the rumor it has psychological pressures, and terrible mental and physical exhaustion, which challenges his ability to bear, threatening psychological peace and social security.

And if yesterday’s rumor belongs to a media environment based on the tongue, and spreading speech in listening ears, empty hearts and distracted minds, its effects are no less widespread and destructive than today’s rumor that belongs to a digital communication environment based on the speed and accuracy of technology.

In this context, this research paper aims to study the phenomenon of (rumour) as one of the most dangerous social phenomena in order to identify its nature and its psychological and social dimensions through a semantic analysis of the fictional text "Piece of String" by Guy de Maupassant.Keywords: rumor, social injustice, psychological pressure, realistic literature.
