Abstract EN

This research examines the follow-up of the development of the linguistic use of the root "seal" (khatam) since the Semitic languages until our modern age, passing through pre-Qur’an Arabic, as well as the development of its Qur’anic usage, and its use in post-Qur’an Arabic.

The research relied on the historical and descriptive analytical approaches.

It is tracked the development of different linguistic connotations in use over the ages, taking care of what was mentioned by the Semitic language sources, linguistic dictionaries, poetic collections, and dictionaries of Quranic significance that collected the summary of meanings from interpretations, the contemporary Arabic language lexicon, and others.

The research concluded that the linguistic development in the root (khatam) is proceeding continuously; as it started his pathway from Semitic languages, with few meanings, then several meanings were developed for it in the Qur’anic usage.

It is continued to branch and develop after the Holy Qur’an.

As it became clear in the research, even if we reached the modern era, we found it developed into many modern uses that represent the religions of languages in general, and the Arabic language in particular.

It was also found that many of the various linguistic uses and connotations have disappeared, and have become a forgotten matter - so to speak - because they are not used in this era, and the users of the language are satisfied with others.
