Abstract EN

This study deals with the issue of the Algerian painter’s struggle throughout the colonial period.

Accordingly, the relationship between the artist and his society, and between the painting expression and the historical, political and social reality, was highlighted through the Algerian painter’s accomplishments during the French tyrannical occupation.

Consequently, all selected paintings belong to an essential stage in the struggle history of the Algerian people who were committed to regaining their right to freedom and their legitimacy in determining their fate.

This study aims to answer these questions: To what extent was the Algerian painter committed to his homeland’s cause? How did he use his artwork as a weapon to fight and resist colonialism? How did the artistic paintings unveil to people the harsh social and political reality that Algeria experienced then? How did he use his artwork as a weapon to fight and resist colonialism?
