Literature is the starting point of the postcolonial discourse.

fiction is a good platform to study the basic concepts of postcolonial literature.

components such as identity, gender, alienation, inferiority, race, etc.

are considered as post-colonial the novel theoretical foundations.

“Barid al-Layl” was written by Lebanese author Hoda Barakat (1952).

Barakat uses the letter, considered a interpersonal traditional and means of mass communication, to express the identity of a colonized society and its inhabitants in a narrative context.

the novel tells the story of five intersecting letters of immigrant, displaced, and exiled Arabs, eloquently introducing the ugly face of war and the most obvious result of colonialism, the ominous phenomenon of Isis in Syria.

this research intends to take a brief look at the novel “Barid al-Layl” and postcolonial literature with a descriptive-analytical method and attempts to analyze the conceptual foundations of postcolonialism in this novel.

the result of the research shows how the author, turning to the anti-colonial perspective, was able to describe the consequences of colonialism in the middle east, especially Syria, using a multi layered narrative.

the postcolonial component of identity is prominent in this novel.
