شكلت سياسة التعذيب إحدى الأساليب التي اعتمدتها الإدارة الاستعمارية في سبيل إخماد الثورة التحريرية من جهة، و الـتأكيد على استمرارية مشروعها الاستيطاني بشكل أبدي من جهة أخرى، تزامن دلك مع مساعي إخماد مختلف أشكال النضال و المقاومة التي أبداها الجزائريون ضد الأهداف الاستيطانية الفرنسية، فكانت تلك الأساليب عملا مبررا طيلة الحقبة الاستعمارية، و بخاصة فترة الثورة التحريرية التي ميزها طيلة مسارها اعتما د الإجرام و التعذيب في أقصى صوره و أشكاله سواء على المستوى الرسمي أو الفردي الذي ميز سلوكيات من قيادات الجيش، وجاءت في هدا السياق مذكرات" شهادتي حول التعذيب- مصالح خاصة 1557/1959 لبول أوساريس التي كشفت مستوى التعذيب التي تعرضت لها شخصيات ثورية خلال فترة " معركة الجزائر

The policy of torture was one of the methods adopted by the colonial administration to thwart the liberation revolution on the one hand, and to eternallyensure the continuity of its settlement project on the other hand.
These torture methods were legitimized as it coincided with efforts to quell the various forms of the Algerianstruggle and resistance against the French settlement goals.
The liberation revolution period was characterized by maximum adoption of crime and torture in its different forms, whether at the official or individual level- the army leaders.
In connection to this, the memoirs "My Testimony about Torture - Special Interests 1557/1959” by Paul Ausariswas written to reveal the level of torture that revolutionary figures were subject to during the "Battle of Algeria".
