The regional security cooperation in the Mediterranean area is one the most successful prominent experiments cooperation security in the world.

It contributed clearly to build the regional and international security through the contributions of many regional organizations and coalitions like European Union, European security and cooperation, and North Atlantic Treaty Organization.

However, the new changes that the region and the world have known since the end of the Cold War, have supposed to these systems the necessity of renewing their mechanisms and means in order to adapt to the changes happened in the international environment, and the ability to face new security challenges and threats.

It changes the types of traditional cooperation which has become useless, and has adopted new types more efficient and flexible.

We will try among this article to discuss and highlight the most important new types of security cooperation in the Mediterranean area.
