Abstract EN

This study aims to determine the suitability of the interior design of elderly nursing homes, in Khartoum state, to the standards that regulate its environment.

it also aims to understand the living conditions of the elderly, men and women, in the nursing homes, in general, and the Daw-Hajouj home for the elderly , and the home for elderly women, in specific.

the descriptive approach was followed in this study, as it helped shedding light on its various aspects through description and analysis.

the interview was used to collect data from a purposive sample of six individuals who have adequate knowledge of the elderly nursing homes in Khartoum state.

the study, after data analyses, came to common results in both homes, through which it was found that there are design problems in the internal environment of both, which were summarized in problems related to the lack of optimal interdependence of the internal environment, lack of attention to cultural diversity of the elderly through design, moreover, both houses lack important functional spaces such as nursing points, spaces allocated to the various activities, in addition to the absence of a good distribution of administrative offices, which negatively affected the daily administrative work.

the study recommends the authorities to provide urgent assistance and care to the elderly nursing homes in Khartoum.

the study also recommends designing and constructing better homes for the elderly with modern specifications that provides comfort and safety, it also recommends conducting more research and studies on this subject and related topics in the future.
