In this article, we study the various provisions and rules that govern and apply to attacks carried out by parties to an armed conflict.

International humanitarian law has dealt with this issue in various conventions, especially the four Geneva Conventions of 1949 and the two Additional Protocols to them in 1977.

Attacks in principle, such as indiscriminate attacks and revenge attacks, and there is another type of attacks that have been prohibited because of their goal, such as attacks targeting the civilian population, attacks targeting cultural objects, etc.

, and international humanitarian law has designated some areas with special protection, such as humanitarian areas and safe areas, and hospital areas, and the duty of military commanders while planning attacks was also touched upon.
