Subordination of Arab critical thought to the Western model.

When the Western critic and writer, in the economic sense, was dominant over the means of literary and critical output, the Arab writer and critic was only the consumer par excellence.

And since he was so, he was just following the steps of the Western writer and critic by dealing with crises and finding solutions for problems that are not really his own.

His ence from the scene is what makes him cud what is produced by others.

It also makes him use their tools and methods to read the texts.

Thus, the methodology that he owns is that which the Western critic and writer leaves for him through different epochs.

It becomes important to follow the changes of perspectives towards Arab literary approach by following its changes in its first and original sources.

Hence, the recent methodological age consists of three stages.

The first is the epoch of the author which is 19th century criticism (historical, psychoanalytical, and social).

The second is the epoch of the text which is exemplified by structuralism in the 1960s.

The third epoch is that of the reader (or the receiver) in the 1990s.

So, this paper tries to deal with all these stages of literary criticism.
