Relation entre les processus d'ajustement, qualité de vie des parents et le comportement adaptatif chez l'enfant souffrant d'un trouble du spectre de l'autisme

this study aimed to examine the relationships between adjustment processes and the quality of life of parents and the adaptive behaviors of children with ASD.

We conducted, based on the integrative model of Bruchon-Schweitzer (2002) proposed in health psychology, a descriptive and correlational study with 180 parents from several wilayas of Algeria, and 180 children with ASD aged 7 years.

We constructed a quality of life questionnaire to assess the consequences of the child's ASD on the parents 'daily life, and we used several scales to measure the parents' adjustment processes, as well as, the scale of Vineland to assess the adaptive behaviors of children with ASD.

Our results show that there is a statistically significant correlation between the adjustment processes and the quality of life of the parents and the adaptive behavior of the child with ASD.

Parents whose child shows a low level of adaptive behavior, perceive their experience as a threat and a loss, and feel more responsible for the onset of ASD, attribute more religious beliefs to their child's disorder, have poor and unsatisfactory social support, use more coping strategies that focus on emotional, and consider that autism spectrum disorder affects their daily life more, and therefore have a poor quality of life.

On the contrary, parents whose child shows a high level of adaptive behavior, perceive their experience as a challenge, have good control over their child's development, have high and satisfactory social support, use more coping strategies focused on problem solving, seeking social support, and consider that autism spectrum disorder affects their daily life less, and therefore have a good quality of life.
