Abstract AR
Abstract EN
-Before the epidemic became a sudden and rapidly spreading deadly disease, it was an important historical fact, with profound effects on the material and spiritual levels for the societies that experienced it.
-Carthage had the same goal as most Greek cities, which is to control trade in the Mediterranean, so there was a permanent enmity between them.
both of them began colonizing the island of Sicily a long time ago, where they fought several wars known as the Sicilian wars (first, second and third).
-we deal in this subject: the period related to the second Sicilian war (409 BC) as it is related to the epidemiology and disease outbreak in the ancient period.
-after the defeat of Carthage in the first Sicilian war, and less than seventy years later, Carthage returned to its original strength, and established many cities in northern Tunisia.
in 409 BC, Hannibal Mago, the grandson of Hamilcar, set out to fight against the Greek cities of Sicily and conquered all the cities of Selinunte and Hembra, especially the most powerful city of Syracuse, but the plague struck his army, and many of them died, including Hannibal Mago.
the commander Hamilko took advantage of the war, and occupied the city of Gela, but under the influence of a severe plague he was forced to agree with Dionysius, the dictator of Syracuse, to return home -researchers’ opinions differed about the nature of the Carthage epidemic at the end of the century (5 BC and the beginning of the 4th century BC), between the plague and typhus.
which of these two diseases affected its army?.
