Security is one of the concepts characterized by ambiguity and a lack of consensus about its meaning.

It was necessary to wait for the end of the Cold War to spread the widening view of security, which includes the political, military, economic, societal, cultural and environmental sectors, and adopt non-state referent objects for its subject.

This article debates the main interventions to the theoretical approaches of the Copenhagen and critical school, which could combine the different dimensions and, levels of security from a contemporary critical perspective.
