The Algeria has a rich material heritage, given its geographical extent on the one hand and its historical extension on the other hand, and those archaeological remains became a very important witness about the different civilizations and the periods in which the country lived.

foremost among which is the Islamic civilization that spanned more than twelve centuries.

the ottoman period (1516-1830 AD) is one of the most important periods in Algeria, which resulted in many achievements in various fields, including the field of architecture in its various branches.

in this article we study a section of civil architecture, which is the public baths that spread widely and in various Islamic cities, including the cities of Algeria, and it was considered an aspect of civilization, progress and luxury, and played important roles in urban life.

our study included two axes.

as for the first, we were exposed to public baths in Islamic countries and their architectural characteristics, in addition to their importance, role and factors of their spread.

on the second axis, we dealt with baths in Algeria during the ottoman era, where we touched on its location and external appearance, in addition to its general planning and architectural units.
