Statistics are particularly important in scientific research, as many studies in sports sciences depend on statistical analysis, and in order for research to be of quality, the researcher must process the data statistically properly, based on the optimal choice of statistical methods in the testing of hypotheses, and from statistical methods frequently used in the field of sports sciences correlation coefficients to test correlation hypotheses that examine the relationship between variables.

therefore, the study aims to clarify the controls that the researcher adheres to when selecting the appropriate correlation coefficient, where the study began by identifying the concept of correlation and clarifying the difference between it and the concepts of causality and prediction, through explaining the correlation hypotheses and their types and how they are formulated, to show the controls of the identification of correlation coefficients represented by the number of variables, the levels of measurement, the linearity of the relationship through the form of propagation for quantitative variables, the moderation of distribution as well as for quantitative variables, and finally the officer of the possibility of determining the independent and dependent variable in correlational hypotheses.
