In this paper, we examine how metaphor works in political discourse according to the cognitive theory of metaphor, which goes beyond the traditional view that made it a research of ornament and aesthetics, to a broder view in which metaphor becomes a central mechanism in producing discourse and understanding its significance.

The objective of this study is to identify the dynamics of the metaphor in Algerian political discourse and the roles it plays to achieve its goals and objectives.
