From its beginnings, photography has borne witness to the conflicts of the planet.
it thus constituted the visual memory of the multitude of wars and atrocities of the last century.
through its unique treatment of the horrors and brutalities of war, photography rises to an aesthetic and moral position in the face of the object of war.
admittedly, it can always be used to strengthen the values of the nation by its fixity and its value of inscribed time, it contributes to dissociate the notion of group for the benefit of the individual and to establish a sensitive relationship to life and death.
photography obviously inherited from the war the speed of the mechanism and the supposed purity of the images, supposed to represent reality without flaws, allow war photography to develop rapidly especially during the two world wars.

Dès ses débuts, la photographie a témoigné des conflits de la planète.
elle a ainsi constitué la mémoire visuelle de la multitude de guerres et d’atrocités du siècle dernier.
par son traitement singulier des horreurs et brutalités de la guerre, la photographie s’élève à une position esthétique et morale face à l’objet de la guerre.
certes, elle peut toujours servir à fortifier les valeurs de la nation par sa fixité et sa valeur de temps inscrit, elle contribue à dissocier la notion de groupe au profit de l’individu et à établir un rapport sensible à la vie et à la mort.
la photographie a évidemment hérité de la guerre la rapidité du mécanisme et la pureté supposée des clichés, censés représenter la réalité sans failles, permettent à la photographie de guerre de se développer rapidement surtout durant les deux guerres mondiales.
