Abstract AR
Abstract EN
This article aims to study the impact of rent on Algeria's regional integration and its potential for trade with African countries.
We selected a sample of 18 African countries.
The study focussed on a descriptive analysis of the relationship between regional integration, natural resources and diversification, using Principal Component Analysis (PCA), and on the estimation of a gravity model for all the countries in the sample over a period from 2005 to 2020.
The results show that traditional factors of international trade, namely the economic size of partner countries, transport costs, agreement trade and geographical proximity, have a significant effect on bilateral exports.
On the other side, rent is an obstacle to integration and trade.
The results of the estimate of Algeria's trade potential with its African partners shows the existence of a strong capacity for trade growth, particularly with neighboring countries situated in the South of Algeria
