The Pragmatic vision of Human Relations: In the Ambush by Cahit Atay


Human relations represent an essential part of human nature, as they form man's awareness and perception of the surroundings.

Relationships tend to create an intellectual stance that might have an effect whether positive or negative at a certain phase of the human life.

Due to human's inability to live in isolation and their constant need to cooperate and participate with others, no matter how weak or tight these relationships are, they are compelled to build relationships with others at all levels which consequently imposes rights and duties.

To shed light on the pragmatic side of human relations, Cahit Atay's PUSUDA (1961) or In the Ambush is a fine model of this literary genre in the Turkish theatre as the author in this theatrical discourse tries to create a real life world.

The pragmatic vision of this one chapter text highlights that the success of Atay is a result of two basic characteristics, in which the first leads to the second, brevity and directness.

He briefly expressed the human crises at various levels in work, friendship and marriage and how he stands in a conflict between duty and desire to preserve his humanity during his mission of populating earth to be a rightful successor of God.
