Settlement was and still is the goal of human agglomerations, and although climatic factors are the ones that control it in the past, various factors have combined to determine the movement of humans in the modern era.

the emergence of the state in its modern form and the imposition of its sovereignty over its territory had a role in regulating the movement of people from one country to another.

freedom of movement within and outside the state is a principle recognized by all the constitutions of the countries of the world and approved by international conventions.

however, with the economic, social and cultural crises, this principle has been restricted and several conditions have been put in place to limit it.

this has led to the spread of the phenomenon of illegal immigration in recent years, especially at the level of the Maghreb countries, which are one of the most immigrant-exporting countries in the world.

this is due to the distinction of the countries bordering the Mediterranean.
