Recently, a number of initiatives have emerged to encourage reading in the Arab Republic of Egypt.
The most notable of these was the National Reading Project; As it is the first competitive cultural project to encourage reading among students of all levels of study, teachers and institutions in the Arab Republic of Egypt, so the study aimed to monitor reading initiatives at the level of the Arab Republic of Egypt and then delve into the knowledge of the national project for reading and analyze the trends of students participating in it from Al-Azhar University and monitor its advantages the faults that were directed against him; The results revealed that there are many initiatives at the level of the Arab Republic of Egypt, and they vary between individual and institutional, profitable and voluntary, and the initiative of the National Reading Project is unique in that it is directed to all students at the school and university levels, as well as teachers and institutions at the level of the Arab Republic of Egypt.
It is worth noting that the most participants were from theoretical disciplines, where their participation in total was 82.4% , while practical majors were 17.6% .
The competition is characterized by a huge financial stimulus, which in turn encourages reading and creates competition among students, and provides students with many skills such as the skill of summarizing, the skill of criticizing the book, as well as the skill of speaking in a sound language in front of the arbitrators.
As for the defects directed at it, they are limited to arbitration, the external conditions that were represented by Covid 19, and the students' dropping out for a long period of time.
The most important recommendations of the study were the following: the need for adequate communication between the project coordinator at the college and the librarian at the college; where cooperation between them leads to motivating students and encouraging them to read, which is beneficial to all parties.
The work of the competition in the summer time; To ensure the participation of all students, especially students of practical specializations who do not find enough time to read and participate in the competition.
The need for more organization on the part of the competition management and their interest in the site of the competition in order for the competition to reap the desired fruits.
Opening the subscription to other categories of the national project for reading, such as graduates.
