Abstract EN

Naguib Mahfouz’s “children of the alley” has raised a lot of questions and evoked various interpretations since it was published for the first time.

this is due to the interesting religious allusions it contains, which exposed it and its author to critical attack, ideologically and politically, and then led to banning its publication and finally the attempt to kill its author.

parallel to this novel, the French novelist Michel Houellebecq published his novel “plateforme” in 2001 to evoke thoughts of hate against Islam inside and outside the French cultural field, and this exposed it and its author to criticism, trials and threats.

this study addresses the taboo and the forbidden between the two novels, and sometimes in other writings of the two authors following the same line of these two novels.

the study adopts two views, the integration between which is thought to be successful in addressing the comparison between the two novels in question.

the first view is that of “formal affinity” and the other is that of “typological affinity”.

these are procedural terms in Slavic comparative literature, especially in the Slovak comparatist Dionýz Ďurišin and the different types of affinities (social, literary and psychological) he presents between different literatures.

the present study attempts to answer questions related to the principle of comparison when the causal connection is lacking, and also the dimensions of comparison between two novelists who have raised a greatly similar issue in two different cultures.
