Abstract EN

The decision making is a basic process in the life of the individual and group.

the individual can solve his problems and achieve adaptation and balance with the surrounding circumstances by this process and it is also considered as an essential part of the individual’s personal and professional life.

it is a process with high specificity that affects the present and future.

the process of decision making has received special and increased attention by the psychologists in general and cognitive psychologists in particular.

many researchers tried to detect the most influential factors in the decision making as they linked between the variable of decision making with other variables that has influence on the individual’s life.

the main goal of the current research is to determine the nature of the relationship between the ability to make a decision and the general anxiety disorder and the psychological independence from parents.

the nature of this relationship has been explored through applying number of scales which are : decision making scale (figure 1) prepared by Abdoon (1979) and then re-codified in (1986), scale of psychological independence from parents for the university students prepared by Hoffman (Hoffman, 1984), symptom check list scale prepared by Abde Elrakeep Elbeheiry (1984) and extracted from the original version prepared by Leonard et al, under the title (SCL-90) using a sample consisting of 60 students in the faculty of education in King Saud university.

the results of the current research confirmed that there is a negative correlation between the ability to take a decision and the general anxiety disorder using Pierson correlation coefficient to measure the relationship between variables.

the results have also confirmed that there is a positive correlation between the ability to make a decision and the general independence from parents.

the current research recommends taking this result into account and to make use of it in the fields of psychological guidance for the students and family and educational awareness whether through creating the conditions proper to build the ability to make effective decisions or help the individual to treat the insufficiency that appears in his ability to make a decision.
