Abstract EN

The COVID 19 pandemic has made an unprecedented global shock in recent history, as it has led to heavy losses of human lives around the world, and has posed a new challenge to public health, food systems, labor, and politics.

it also caused the consequent harsh precautionary measures implemented by countries, such as closure, quarantine, and social distancing.

the rapid spread of COVID 19 and the measures taken by governments to contain it have had dire consequences for the world's major economies.

hence, the current study aims at better understanding the policies implemented by the Egyptian state-through the national response plan-to confront the pandemic and evaluating its effectiveness on some government sectors and community institutions in light of the negative repercussions of the emerging virus aiming to limit its spread, resisting its repercussions, and striving towards expanding social protection programs in times of crisis.

to achieve this goal, the study adopted a qualitative approach and used the “diagnostic interview manual” as a main tool for data collection, in addition to analyzing some health reports and official documents of some concerned ministries.

the study sample consists of (27 individuals) selected through the “intentional sample” method from some officials (in the ministry of health and population and the regional eastern Mediterranean office in Cairo of the world health organization).

the study’s main question is: what is the effectiveness of the policies adopted by the Egyptian state-through the national response plan-to confront the emerging coronavirus on the health security of the Egyptian society? the results of the study reveal that all sectors in the Egyptian society, most notably the education and the health sectors in addition to the economic, tourism, and social sectors, have been affected by the negative repercussions of the COVID 19 pandemic in light of a “medium” response plan adopted by the Egyptian state in confronting the emerging pandemic.
