This study deals with presenting the most important approaches and theories explaining the phenomenon of urban growth and expansion، as it is considered one of the important phenomena that affect the shape of the city and its urban functions، by shedding light on the most important perceptions of urbanization and urban growth، so that there is a forward-looking vision for the growth of cities in contemporary studies This study also included a presentation and explanation of the forms of urban growth and expansion and the use of the land through contributions made by the pioneers of urban sociology، especially the pioneers of the Chicago American School.
