Abstract EN
This research adduced new methodologies that are adopted by the scholars of Quranic exegesis in their publications to further develop exegesis.
Thus, it aimed to develop new principles and concepts for Quranic exegesis that are premised on the traditional methods of interpretation, dating back to the prophetic era.
The Noble Prophet (SAW) was the first interpreter of the Glorious Qur’an.
Thereafter, people applied reasoning and intellectualism for the interpretation of the verses of the Noble Qur’an that were left uninterpreted by the Honorable Prophet (SAW).
This was meant to educate people and cater for their needs to understand the rules of the Noble Qur’an, and the succeeding generations followed the same footsteps.
However, Quranic exegesis in such era was restricted to oral accounts and narrations rather than compiled in a single book.
Then, the compilation of the interpretations of the holy Qur’an started in the second century AH.
Initially, this was regarded as part of the science of the Prophetic tradition (al-Hadith/al-Sunnah), before it became a distinct science in the third century AH.
During that period, the entire interpretation of the Qur’an was compiled in accordance with the arrangement of the chapters of the holy Qur’an.
Narrations, opinions and prophetic stories were collected and were used together with intellectual works such as analysis, preferences, inductions and evidences, all of which were referred to as al-Tafseer bi- al-Ma’thur (Quranic exegesis by transmission).
Thus, the science of al- Tafseer (exegesis) developed through the compilation of knowledge and the expansion of its branches, based on intellectualism.
In addition, scholars later developed new methodologies of al-Tafseer such as al-Tafseer al- Lughawi (lingual exegesis), al-Tafseer al-Fiqihi (jurisprudential exegesis), al-Tafseer al-Ishari (expressive exegesis), al-Tafseer al-‘Aqli (intellectual exegesis), al-Tafseer al-Ijtimai’ (social exegesis) and al-Tafseer al-‘Ilmi (scientific exegesis).
All these categories of Tafseer emerged during that period, in addition to other methodologies that were developed within
