Abstract EN

A long time ago, the issue of word and meaning attracted the attention of many scholars and experts in the scope of critical and intellectual studies.

scholarly interpretations of the topic “word and meaning” are addressed differently in both studies and analyses.

some experts focused on “word”, others on “meaning”, however, some scholars have emphasized the controversial relationship between them.

ancient Maghreb critics also devoted much attention to the study of ‘word and meaning’ such as ibn Sharaf (460), in his book (questions of criticism), in which he dealt with the same question.

this paper attempts to reveal ibn Sharaf's point of view and his scientific position on this subject, in addition to presenting the most important critical questions already addressed by previous scholars.

the study also seeks to find out whether he, ibn Sharaf, has come up with something new or it is nothing more than a continuum of what former eastern critics have dealt with.
