Abstract EN

Nano-curcuminis increasingly being investigated for its beneficial health effects due to its increased bioavailability in compare to native curcumin.

The present study aims to compare the efficacy of both nano-curcumin and carbimazole in treating liver damage caused by hyperthyroidism in experimental animals.

Forty male Wistaralbino rats were dividedinto four groups, namely: 1) Negative control group fed on laboratory diet for 35 days.

2) Rats were injected subcutaneouslybyLT4 (0.3mg/kg b.w.) for 35 consecutive days.

3 and 4) Hyperthyroid rats were treated with nano-curcumin (100mg/kg b.w) and carbimazole(0.450mg/kg b.w) for 21 days along with TL4 (0.3mg/kg b.w.) respectively.

At the end; the blood samples were collected for biochemical analysis.

Also; livers were collected and divided into two parts, one for estimating the extent of DNA damage and the other for histological studies.

The results showed significant increases in serum T4 and T3accompanied with a decrease in TSH, liver dysfunction, oxidative stress and inflammation in hyperthyroid group compared to the healthy group.

DNA damage and histological changes were alsoobserved in rat livers of hyperthyroid group.

On the contrary, treatment with nano-curcumin and carbimazole significantly improved all the mentioned parameters, accompanied withan improvement in the histological liver tissue changes.

Collectively, these datademonstrated that nano-curcumin is more superior to carbimazol in controlling liver damage in hyperthyroid rats.

Thesefindings underscored that nano- curcuminis a promising remedy compared to the commercial drug.
