The Soviet military occupation in Afghanistan on December 27, 1979, triggered far-reaching echoes all over the world, and wide-ranging reactions at the regional and international levels, especially the Egyptian Arab Republic, at a time when the world's intentions were turning to Cairo, to follow up on political developments there, especially after the Camp David Agreement in 1978.

When news of the Soviet military occupation of Afghanistan came, it was natural for it to be at the forefront of the news of world radio and newspapers based on the importance of the role of the press, especially the Egyptian newspaper “Al-Ahram” that accompanied the Soviet intervention in Afghanistan from the beginning, and closely followed the follow-up accurate of all developments in the scene of the occupation of Afghanistan, its dimensions and the extent of its repercussions at the international and regional levels, in press coverage, which resulted in regional and international policies and positions that greatly affected the developments of the Afghan scene.
