Since 2014 ,an increasing number of young performing artists have joined the migration wave from Syria towards Europe .The artists engaged in regional and European performance production channels ,which provided a space of interaction around common socio-political issues such as war and migration .Discussing these issues uncovered hegemonic forms of political and cultural exclusions that hampered their cultural participation in their original countries and the countries they currently settled .Participation in theatre projects contributes to artists ‘transnational biographic and identity formations worthy of study .Their participation could re-establish common grounds around issues they encountered before experiencing refuge and after their migration journey .This article induces cultural expression forms among Arab artists in exile through a case study on a theatrical performance, ’Ifigenia ‘,premiered in Berlin ,September 2017 ,with eight young Syrian artists .The case study introduces a cultural paradox that accumulates throughout artists ‘migration experience as they decided to leave and had to bear with its consequences .The article concludes that migrant artists‘ capability to self-expression was governed by an authoritative framework, yet stimulated encounter and confrontation .It also concludes that migrant artists ‘expressions are transnationally constructed and therefore enabled un-official social networks among artists to form.
