Abstract EN

By the beginning of the last decade in the twentieth century ,the anthropological demography emerged as a new autonomous discipline, constructed on the basis of interdisciplinarity between demography, with its generalizing quantitative character ,and anthropology ,with its particularizing qualitative nature .Despite the evident theoretical and methodological divergence between the two origins and the difficulties that encountered the emergence of the new science ,the mutual work that joined them together quickly opened up broad horizons of knowledge, on conceptual ,theoretical ,and applied levels ;and the models that have resulted - which are still recent - helped enriching our understanding of the main subject in the two origin sciences :the human being.

This study seeks to define anthropological demography as an independent new science with its topic ,theories and methodology ,and to shed light on the obstacles that faced its establishment and still are .It also examines the most important level of interaction between demography and anthropology embodied in employing the cultural issue in understanding demographic behavior in general ,and fertility in particular ;as there is a great need for Arab research today to open up to this new interdisciplinary perspective ,and to seize its cognitive tools ,in a way that contributes to reaching a better understanding of the present of the demographic behavior of the population ,and a better planning of its future.
