Abstract EN

It is widely explained that Ibn Khaldun’s innovative paradigm of social thought (ilmu alumrani albashari) is the outcome of the civilization context and the social dynamics in which he lived.

This paper shows the shortcomings of this strict social deterministic view of the making of the new social thought of Ibn Khaldun.

It argues that Ibn Khaldun’s innovative social thinking is first of all the result of Ibn Khaldun’s personality traits.

Otherwise, all scholars and thinkers of his time in the same Arab Muslim civilization milieu would have written similar Muqaddimahs.

With the help particularly of modern psychology of creativity, this article emphasizes the idea that the roots of innovative thought are the result of a harmonious combination of psychological and social factors where the personality traits/psychological factors play a more crucial role in the making of the phenomenon of human innovation.
