Abstract EN

In its quest to put an end to the revolution that broke out in the Dhofar region, the Sultanate of Oman requested military assistance from the United States, which in turn sent a military expert to Oman to form a clear picture of the ongoing war in Dhofar, and to conduct an actual assessment for the needs of the Omani armed forces.

Although Washington confirmed in several occasions to Oman and Britain that the goal of its military mission is political and not for military purposes, Britain was very afraid that the mission's report would not be in her favor.

Nevertheless, the outputs of the military mission were very much in line with the wishes of the British and their policy in Oman.
