This paper aims at investigating the story cycle as a literary genre and device as to the origin, foundation, and use.

The story cycle has been initially originated as a narrative device, but, later on, it has been used in poetry as well.

Emerged first as a critical term, the story cycle is used to achieve ends and communicate senses.

This paper, therefore, unfolds this term back in pre-Islamic poetry and how it was used in the poems of that late Arab poetry.
