Abstract EN

The study aimed at determining the extent of effectiveness of Jordan's soft strategy in fighting radicalism and terrorism, by identifying the factors and reasons of extremism and terrorism in Jordan and measuring the degree of its association with the interventions to combat the phenomenon.

the study starts from the following hypothesis: "there is a positive relationship between Jordan's soft strategy used to combat extremism and terrorism under king Abdullah II (1999-2016), and the interventions that were based on understanding the factors leading to extremism and terrorism in Jordan”.

the results of the study concluded that Jordan depends primarily on the solid security approach and secondarily upon the soft strategy.

the findings also found that current programs and projects were mostly not based on an accurate analysis and identification of extremism and terrorism leading factors, instead, they were mostly influenced by the financial aider’s approaches, without the presence of an effective system of measuring results and their impact.

finally, the study recommends the necessity to build the capacity of the directorate for combating extremism and violence and to become an independent body of the council of ministers to enable it to coordinate the national and international efforts in combating extremism and terrorism.
