This research aimed to reveal the construction of the fictional time in the novel "Why they hate us" by the Salisu Mai Angwo.

the researcher adopted the descriptive method for the study.

the results of the study revealed the narrator used the chronological paradox to arrange the narrative events through recall and anticipation, which caused mismatch between the narrative system and the story time.

while narrating the period of events, he adopted summary and omission to accelerate the narration forward to avoid mentioning issues that did not contribute positively to the narrative context, and when slowing down the narration of events, he used descriptive pause for commentaries on space and characters, he also employed dialogue scene to give the character a space to express her thoughts and vision through her direct language, and to reveal herself through dialogue, which leads to equality between story time and narrative time.
